What is happening at the Flemish sea side?

The holiday season is quite over, so the answer to this question has nothing to do with tourism but everything with water research and technology. During this BIWA sea event we will visit the Vlaams Instituut voor de Zee (VLIZ or Flanders Marine Institute) in Ostend where we will be introduced to the research and activities that take place at the institute but we will also learn about DEME’s activities in the North Sea.

The program looks as follows:

  • 14u30 - arrival and welcome
  • 15u - DEME presents de Blauwe Cluster and the innovatie project “Coastbusters” (ecosystem based coastal defense)
  • 16u - VLIZ presents its activities
  • 17u - Visit to the Simon Stevin research boat of VLIZ
  • 18u - Closing network reception

Registration is free for members; non-members pay a small fee. Registration happens online through the link below. We hope to see you all there!

The first 2017 BIWA Happy Hour will take participants to Kruibeke-Bazel, a beautiful location to explore the implementation of Sigma plan, protecting the area from flooding. As usual, the Happy Hour will feature explanation and guidance by experts, followed by a networking reception. The Happy Hour is planned on March 27th, starting at with a short introduction at 5pm sharp, at the ferry crossing from Kruibeke to Hoboken (Scheldelei). Be in time, because the guided tour includes a good walk and it might be hard to track the group down afterwards!

More details on the flooding area and the program can be found in the attached files.

B-IWA is proud to announce that the Training, Innovation and Development Centre of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Brussels is willing to welcome us for our next Happy Hour, taking place on November 30th. The Espace Bruno Corbé of MSF is the first European training and innovation centre constructed to reproduce the conditions of humanitarian aid. In this context, MSF also works on wastewater treatment technologies and installations that are fir for use in developing countries.

This Happy Hour will be a unique opportunity to get to know Médecins Sans Frontières from another perspective. Especially Young Water Professionals are encouraged and warmly welcomed by MSF to take part in this Happy Hour. Due the limited capacity of the EBC site, registrations for this Happy Hour will be limited to 40 participants, so keep an eye out on the website and on our Twitter profile, where more information will follow soon.
